FAQ

Questions about going solar

Purchasing a solar system is a decision that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Our mission is to give you all the information you need to make an informed choice.

How much does solar cost?

It depends on the size of the system, which depends on how much power you use. Panels, inverters, racking, wiring, monitoring, permits and labor all go into the price. The cost of an installed system has dropped more than 70% since 2010. We’ll design a system around your actual usage and give you one clear number.

How much will I save?

We aim to wipe out up to 95% of your electric bill when your roof allows it. On average our customers save around $150 a month, anywhere from $60 to $250 depending on the system.

How and when do I get my rebate?

If your power company offers a rebate, it’s assigned to DKD Energy and we take it off your total before you pay or finance. You get the benefit on day one instead of waiting for it.

Do I still get a federal tax credit?

Not for a home system bought with cash or a loan: the federal residential credit ended on December 31, 2025. Systems owned by a business may still qualify. Solar still pays for itself through lower bills, utility rebates and Texas’s property tax exemption, and we’ll show you the numbers for your home.

How long until my system is working?

Usually 4–8 weeks from signing, and most of that is permitting. That covers HOA approval, the city permit, power company approval, installation (typically one day), the city inspection, the power company’s final inspection and your new meter. You get an email update at every step.

How do I pay for it?

Three ways: zero down with payments deferred 12 months, a solar loan, or cash (including a mortgage refinance). We’ll compare them side by side for you.

When will it pay for itself?

It depends on your power company, your rate and your roof. Your energy consultant will give you a payback estimate for your home before you sign anything.

Does solar add value to my home?

Studies have found each $1 a year cut from your energy bill adds about $20 to a home’s value, which can mean $20,000 to $40,000 for a typical system. And in Texas, that added value isn’t taxed.

Do I need a new roof first?

Not always. If your roof has less than about 10 years left, it’s cheaper to replace it before the panels go on. Our sister company, DKD Roofing, can check it and replace it, and we’ll plan the solar install around it.

What happens in a power outage?

A standard grid-tied system shuts off during an outage for line-worker safety. Add a battery and your home keeps running on stored solar power.

Can I put solar on my business?

Usually, yes. There are a few limits depending on the building and the utility. Call us and we’ll tell you quickly whether you qualify.
