Cost & savings
What does solar really cost?
The price of a fully installed solar system has dropped more than 70% since 2010. Your cost comes down to how big a system you need, which depends on how much power you want to make. Here’s how it adds up, and what not going solar costs you.
The cost of power over time
Do you know what you’ll spend on electricity?
Move the slider to your average bill. A $225 bill adds up to $27,000 over ten years before a single rate increase, and rates rarely stand still.
- Over 10 years
- $30,950
- Over 25 years
- $98,450
That’s what you’ll pay the power company if nothing changes. Solar lets you put much of that toward a system you own. This is an estimate of your current spending, not a quote.

2026 incentives
What brings the price down in Texas
Incentives changed in 2026. Here’s where things stand today; we’ll confirm what applies to your address.
Utility rebates
Austin Energy customers can get a rebate on a qualifying system. When a rebate applies, it’s assigned to us and comes straight off your price, so you don’t wait for a check.
No property tax on solar
Texas exempts the value solar adds to your home from property tax, so your home’s value can go up without your tax bill following it.
Sell back your extra power
Many Texas utilities and retail plans credit you for the power your panels send back to the grid. We’ll tell you what yours pays.
Tax credits for businesses
The federal homeowner solar credit ended on December 31, 2025, but business-owned systems may still qualify for a federal credit. Ask your tax advisor and we’ll provide the paperwork.
Financing
Ways to pay
If you qualify, solar can be cash-flow positive from day one.
Zero down
Zero down with payments deferred for 12 months, for qualifying customers.
Solar loan
A straightforward loan sized to your system, so your payment can sit close to the bill it replaces.
Cash or refinance
Pay outright, or roll the system into a mortgage refinance, for the fastest payback.
How much will I save?
We aim to wipe out up to 95% of your electric bill when your roof allows it. On average our customers save around $150 a month, anywhere from $60 to $250 depending on the system.
Do I still get a federal tax credit?
Not for a home system bought with cash or a loan: the federal residential credit ended on December 31, 2025. Systems owned by a business may still qualify. Solar still pays for itself through lower bills, utility rebates and Texas’s property tax exemption, and we’ll show you the numbers for your home.
When will it pay for itself?
It depends on your power company, your rate and your roof. Your energy consultant will give you a payback estimate for your home before you sign anything.
Does solar add value to my home?
Studies have found each $1 a year cut from your energy bill adds about $20 to a home’s value, which can mean $20,000 to $40,000 for a typical system. And in Texas, that added value isn’t taxed.
